House Drawing

How it was done

The commission sparked from my neighbor moving. She had lived there for almost 20 years and a couple of families pitched in for this as a gift to her.

Pencil was the medium of choice and a smaller size was thought to be appropriate for a small momento in her new home. The only struggle was shrinking the massive tree in front to uncover more of the house (see pictures).

The final was 11"x14" matted in deep green with a wide oak frame.

The pictures didn't help. One request was to shrink the tree. Several angles were used for the final piece, but the bottom one shown here was the foundation.

It starts with a couple initial sketches. Then I re-visited the house and made notes on the previous sketches. Click for a larger view.

My desk. Pictures of different angles of the house, sketches, etc. help get me started.

Final drawing, light sketch so far. I apologize that it's hard to make out because I forgot to use flash. Click for a bigger view.
